SMCM Men’s Soccer Nipped by Salisbury

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's soccer team battled in-state rival, Salisbury University, Wednesday afternoon (Sept. 24). St. Mary's College (3-5-1) took another tough non-conference loss, falling 1-0 to Salisbury (4-3-2) in the 83rd minute.

How It Happened
  • Shots were even at three apiece in the first half while the Sea Gulls claimed a 4-1 margin in corner kicks. All three of the SU shots were on target but junior goalkeeper Jordon Eckman (Fallston, Md./Loyola Blakefield) handled them, sending the teams into halftime in a scoreless draw.
  • The battle continued in the second half with both sides intensifying their attack.
  • Junior midfielder Tyler Foti (Annandale, Va./Annandale) notched the Seahawks' first shot on goal in the 63rd minute but Will Noble denied SMCM from taking a 1-0 lead.
  • Junior forward Lucas Evans (Greenbelt, Md./South River) tested Noble in the 75th minute but once again Noble stifled the attempt. Five minutes later, sophomore midfielder Zach Blaum (Richmond, Va./Atlee) hoped to slip one past Noble as well.
  • David Brunetti broke the tie at 82:48 with a left-footed shot to the top right corner off a pass from Dale Gordon.
  • St. Mary's College's final attempt at landing on the scoreboard came in the 85th minute when sophomore forward Nick Haney's (Chesapeake Beach, Md./Northern) free kick from 25 yards out bounced in front of Noble, bobbling in his hands before he gained control for the save.
