St. Mary’s College Men’s Soccer Blanks Valley Forge

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's soccer team unleashed a season-best five goals to open United East Conference action Saturday afternoon (Sept. 27) with a shutout win. St. Mary's College (4-5-1, 1-0-0 UEC) posted a 5-0 victory over the University of Valley Forge (2-7-1, 0-1-0 UEC) in the first-ever meeting between the two sides.
 
How It Happened
  • Junior forward Franco Reyes (Silver Spring, Md./Montgomery Blair) had a hand in the first three goals of the game.
  • Reyes netted the game-winning goal in the eighth minute as he finished off a pass from junior defender Ethan Wright (Columbia, Md./Bethesda Chevy Chase). Reyes then assisted on junior midfielder Tyler Foti's (Annandale, Va./Annandale) goal in the 13th minute for a 2-0 Seahawk lead. He scored the third goal of the afternoon in the 17th minute as Reyes put away a pass from junior forward Lucas Evans (Greenbelt, Md./South River).
  • Foti found the back of the net himself in the 20th minute off an assist from senior captain Ned Schauermann (Edgewater, Md./South River) to send SMCM into halftime with a 4-0 advantage.
  • Sophomore forward William Marbray (Ellicott City, Md./Marriotts Ridge) wrapped up the scoring for St. Mary's College in the 72nd minute as first-year midfielder Max Schult (Mount Airy, Md./South Carroll) assisted on the play.

  • St. Mary's College tallied a 37-2 shot advantage, including 15-0 shots on goal margin.
  • The Seahawks also gained a 12-1 edge in corner kicks.
  • Eleven fouls were called with six committed by SMCM. Each team received a caution.

  • Junior goalkeeper Zack Reed (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown) did not make a save in recording his first solo shutout of the season.
