RALEIGH, N.C. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland field hockey team faced their third nationally-ranked opponent this season on the campus of Meredith College Saturday afternoon (Sept. 27). St. Mary's College (5-4) dropped a 4-1 non-conference decision to No. 15 Shenandoah University (6-2) for its third straight loss.
How It Happened
- Following a scoreless first quarter, the Seahawks struck first at 17:43 as senior captain Emma Watkins (Frederick, Md./Linganore) put away a feed from senior forward Briana Allen (Bowie, Md./Mount de Sales).
- Shenandoah wasted no time in responding with a game-tying goal as Reagan Flory found the back of the cage 43 seconds later for a 1-1 game at halftime.
- The Hornets outshot SMCM, 26-4, over the second half and tacked on three more goals.
- Flory scored her second of the game at 36:59 before assisting on Kierney Weigle's goal at 41:11 for a 3-1 SU lead.
- Claudia Lenahan closed out the scoring just over three minutes into the fourth frame with an unassisted tally.

- Shenandoah finished the game with a 37-14 shot advantage, including 16-8 shots on goal margin.
- The Hornets boasted a 14-3 edge in penalty corners.
St. Mary's College
- Sophomore goalkeeper Sophia Kent (Chesterville, Md./Gunston) picked up 10 saves in the first 53 minutes of the game.
- Junior goalkeeper Caroline McDonald (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) made two stops over the final seven minutes.
Shenandoah
- Cassidy Alexander came up with seven saves as the Hornets snapped a two-game skid.
- Flory led all players with two goals and an assist.
