ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's soccer team dominated on both ends of the field Saturday afternoon, powering past the University of Valley Forge, 11-0, at Jamie L. Roberts Stadium. With the victory, the Seahawks improve to 4-4-2 on the season and open United East play at 1-0, while Valley Forge falls to 2-5 overall and 0-2 in conference action.
St. Mary's wasted no time setting the tone, as Makayla Marvray struck just 30 seconds into the match off a feed from Maddison Spradlin. Moments later, Spradlin found the back of the net herself to double the early lead. The Seahawks continued to pepper the Valley Forge defense with 26 first-half shots, though the score remained 2-0 at the break thanks to strong goalkeeping from Abigail Wood, who finished the match with 20 saves.
The second half was all St. Mary's, as the Seahawks erupted for nine goals in 45 minutes. Megan Rusk scored twice in quick succession, followed by tallies from Marvray, Keira O'Neail (two), Allie Petryszak, Piya Singh (penalty kick), Madelyn Minichino, and Julia Kleine. Spradlin contributed a goal and two assists, while Ashlyn Bonner added a pair of helpers to the offensive onslaught.
The Seahawks outshot Valley Forge, 54-0, and held a commanding 17-0 advantage in corner kicks. Goalkeepers Kyleigh Bland and Breanna Brown combined for the shutout, though neither was forced to make a save.
St. Mary's will return to action on Wednesday, October 1, when they host Penn State Brandywine under the lights at Jamie L. Roberts Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
