SALISBURY, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland Women's Soccer team (2-1-2) dropped a 4-0 decision to unbeaten Rowan University (3-0) on Sunday afternoon at the Sea Gull Soccer Stadium.
Rowan struck early in the first half, finding the back of the net in the 21st minute before doubling its advantage just 10 minutes later. The Seahawks went into halftime trailing 2-0 despite several strong saves from senior goalkeeper Kyleigh Bland (Mechanicsville, Md.), who tallied four first-half stops.
The Profs extended their lead early in the second half, scoring twice in a ten-second span in the 55th minute to put the match out of reach. Bland finished the afternoon with six saves across 82 minutes of action, while first-year keeper Breanna Brown (Waldorf, Md.) closed the match in goal.
Offensively, the Seahawks generated a pair of second-half chances, including a shot on goal from Makayla Marvray (Charlotte Hall, Md.) in the 77th minute that tested the Rowan keeper. Brooke Hall (Mount Airy, Md.) also registered a late shot for St. Mary's.
Rowan held a 22-2 advantage in total shots and 4-1 edge in corner kicks.
The Seahawks (2-1-2) will look to bounce back on Wednesday, September 10, when they return home to face Stevenson University in non-conference action. Kickoff is set for 5:00 p.m at Jamie L. Roberts Stadium.
