LANCASTER, Pa. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's basketball team took on the second-place team in the United East Conference standings Saturday afternoon (Jan. 17). St. Mary's College (6-9, 2-3 UEC) dropped a 98-70 decision to host Lancaster Bible College (13-4, 5-0 UEC) as a season-high 30 turnovers derailed their upset bid.
How It Happened
- The first half featured five lead changes and two tied scores.
- Lancaster Bible jumped out to a 9-0 lead at 17:23 before first-year guard Korey Blair (Baltimore, Md./Overlea) scored eight of the Seahawks' first 11 points to pull them within one (12-11) at 15:39.
- The Chargers maintained the lead, but SMCM remained on their heels until a Blair dunk handed the visitors their first lead of the game, 25-24, with 6:35 to go.
- LBC regained the advantage and built a 36-31 margin with 2:53 left in the half but Blair sparked a 9-2 push to end the first 20 minutes.
- St. Mary's College headed into halftime with a 40-38 advantage after posting a season-best .667 field goal percentage in the first half.
- Senior captain JD Salo (Dunkirk, Md./Northern) doubled the Seahawks' lead at the start of the second half for their biggest lead of the game.
- Lancaster Bible responded with a 12-0 run to take over the lead for good, boasting a 50-42 margin with 16:59 to go.

- SMCM finished the game with a season-best .565-field goal percentage while edging the Chargers, 29-27, in cleaning the glass.
- Lancaster Bible converted 30 Seahawk turnovers into 40 points while dominating inside play with a 60-34 margin for points in the paint.
