SALEM, Va. – Junior
Savannah Owens (Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas Johnson) registered two program records this weekend (Jan. 16-17) as the St. Mary's College of Maryland women's indoor track & field team competed at the Finn Pincus Invite hosted by Roanoke College at the Cregger Center. St. Mary's College notched eight personal records and four season-best marks to go along with two records.
Owens set the 300m dash school record with 43.54 as this marked the first time a Seahawk has ever competed in the event. Owens also broke her own 400m record with 1:01.71, shaving off 0.46 seconds from her previous mark of 1:02.17.
How It Happened
- Junior Jillian Zukley (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) was one of two Seahawks who collected a second-place finish as Zukley came in second in the weight throw with 14.74m.
- Sophomore Ella Mitchell (Towson, Md./Bryn Mawr) led SMCM in the 5000m run with a second-place finish in 20:19.04 while senior Kate Wachter (Takoma Park, Md./Montgomery Blair) was third in 21:42.60.
- The foursome of juniors Weiya Carter (Havre de Grace, Md./Towson) and Ellie Geiger (California, Md./Leonardtown), first-year Molly Hieatzman (Sykesville, Md./Century), and Mitchell clocked a 14:42.55 for fourth place in the distance medley relay.
- Wachter notched a fourth-place finish in the 3000m run in 11:54.66 while first-year Elle Wilson (Westminster, Md./Westminster) took ninth with a personal record 12:26.53.
- The Seahawks claimed fourth through eighth in the 1000m run with Wilson placing fourth in 3:43.91. Carter came in fifth in 3:46.40 followed by first-year Charlotte Crabtree (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) in sixth in 3:53.03. Hieatzman tallied a seventh-place finish in 3:57.04 while junior Alexis Hodges (Sugarland, Texas/Chopticon [Md.]) posted a personal record of 4:12.63 for eighth.
- First-year Lacey Schleig (Baltimore, Md./Sparrows Point) came in fourth in the high jump with 1.40m while sophomore Rocksann Smith (Baltimore, Md./Baltimore City College) was fifth with 1.40m as well.
- Schleig finished fifth in the finals of the 60m hurdles in 9.98. In the preliminaries, she posted a 10.02 for fifth and a spot in the finals.
- Owens went sixth in both the 300m dash (43.54) and the 400m dash (1:01.71) while Schleig with 1:09.75 (12th) and Geiger with 1:17.11 (16th) both recorded personal records.
- Mitchell went sixth in the mile run in 5:44.23 while Zukley placed sixth in the shot put with 10.99m.
- Geiger notched a seventh-place finish in the 600m run in 2:06.63 while Hodges came in ninth in 2:14.79.
- Smith jumped 4.75m for 10th in the long jump while Hodges went 13th in the 800m run in 3:12.90.
- In the semifinals of the 60m dash, Smith clocked a season-best 8.23 for 14th place. Smith had posted a season-best 8.26 in the preliminaries for 15th and a spot in the semifinals.
- Owens also placed 15th in the 200m in 27.73.
