Three St. Mary’s College Women’s Indoor Track & Field Program Records Fall at Patriot Games

FAIRFAX, Va. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's indoor track & field team recorded eight personal records, three school records, and three season-best marks at the Patriot Games hosted by George Mason University (Jan. 30-31) while first-year Lacey Schleig (Baltimore, Md./Sparrows Point) qualified for the All-Atlantic Region Track & Field Conference Indoor Championships in the triple jump.
 
Schleig registered the 29th-best triple jump distance in Division III with a school record and PR of 11.15m. She surpassed her own mark of 10.60m from the Spartan Invitational on Jan. 9. This is the second time Schleig has broken the triple jump record this season.
 
For the third time this season, senior Savannah Owens (Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas Johnson) has broken the 400m dash record. Owens clocked a season-best 1:01.46 to break her previous mark of 1:01.71 from the Finn Pincus Invite on Jan. 17. The 400m dash record has been broken four times overall this season.
 
Junior Avery Arizzi (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) broke her own school record in the 500m run, clocking a 1:22.53 to surpass her previous mark of 1:24.60 from Spartan Invitational on Jan. 10, 2025.
 
How It Happened
  • Schleig came in fourth in the triple jump with her PR and school record distance of 11.15m.
  • Senior Fladaïna Bruno (Columbia, Md./Oakland Mills) placed sixth in the weight throw with 12.14m.
  • Arizzi captured her 500m run heat with a PR and school record of 1:22.53 for seventh place overall while finishing 29th in the 200m dash in 28.95.
  • Junior Jillian Zukley (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) collected an eighth-place finish in the shot put with 10.23m.
  • The foursome of Owens, Schleig, junior Ellie Geiger (California, Md./Leonardtown), and Arizzi came together for a ninth-place finish in the 4x400m relay with a season-best 4:34.93.
  • Owens went ninth overall in the 400m dash with a season-best and school record 1:01.46 as she claimed the top spot in her heat.
  • Sophomore Ella Mitchell (Towson, Md./Bryn Mawr) ran 3:26.76 for 13th place in the 1000m run while notching a personal record of 11:37.16 in the 3000m for 22nd place.
  • Sophomore Rocksann Smith (Baltimore, Md./Baltimore City College) put up a season-best 4.76m in the long jump for 15th place.
  • First-year Elle Wilson (Westminster, Md./Westminster) led four Seahawks in the 800m run as Wilson placed 22nd in 2:52.02. First-year Molly Hieatzman (Sykesville, Md./Century) posted a PR of 2:56.11 for 23rd place while junior Weiya Carter (Havre de Grace, Md./Towson) tallied a PR of 2:56.83 for 24th. Junior Alexis Hodges (Sugarland, Texas/Chopticon [Md.]) also earned a PR of 3:03.69 for 25th place.
  • Owens added a 26th-place finish in the 60m dash in 8.27 after claiming the top spot in her heat. Additionally, sophomore Kayla Thomas (Baltimore, Md./Northeast) clocked a PR of 10.04 for 40th.
  • Senior Kate Wachter (Takoma Park, Md./Montgomery Blair) went 5:58.48 in the mile for 27th overall while Wilson collected a PR of 6:11.07 for 30th.
