Seahawks Roll Past Cairn, 98–40, to Remain Undefeated in United East Play

LANGHORNE, Pa. — The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's basketball team delivered a dominant wire-to-wire performance Wednesday afternoon, defeating Cairn University, 98–40, in United East action at the Mason Activity Center.

The Seahawks (9-5, 3-0 United East) used aggressive defense and balanced scoring to control the game from the opening tip, jumping out to a 27–3 lead after the first quarter and never looking back.

St. Mary's placed five players in double figures, led by Skylar Woodyard, who scored a game-high 18 points on 8-of-9 shooting in just 15 minutes off the bench. Keira Mason added 16 points, going 12-for-13 from the free-throw line, while Olivia Liszt and Saffiyah Gibson each finished with 14 points. Halimah Hajhassan rounded out the double-figure scorers with 10 points.

The Seahawks' defense set the tone early, forcing 45 Cairn turnovers, which St. Mary's converted into 54 points off turnovers. The Seahawks also dominated inside, outscoring Cairn 52–12 in the paint, and held the Highlanders to just 7.7 percent shooting in the opening quarter.

St. Mary's maintained its momentum in the second quarter, extending the lead to 52–14 at halftime behind efficient shooting and relentless pressure. The Seahawks shot 45.8 percent from the field for the game and totaled 38 rebounds, including 20 on the offensive glass, leading to 19 second-chance points.

The bench played a significant role in the victory, accounting for 71 points, as all 14 Seahawks who saw action contributed to the scoring column.

Cairn (1-10, 0-4 United East) was led by Dezaray Bright, who scored 14 points, while Kailee Sobrino added eight points.

St. Mary's will continue conference play on Saturday, January 10th, when the Seahawks host Penn State Abington for a 3:00PM tip-off.
