STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – A trio of Seahawks posted school records as the St. Mary's College of Maryland women's indoor track & field team started 2026 at the Spartan Invitational hosted by St. Thomas Aquinas College at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex Friday (Jan. 9).
The 400m dash school record was broken twice this afternoon as junior
Avery Arizzi (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) displaced her own record of 1:02.72 (Feb. 26, 2024) by clocking a 1:02.60 in Heat 3 before junior
Savannah Owens (Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas Johnson) ran a 1:02.17 in Heat 10 for the new 400m dash school record.
First-year
Lacey Schleig (Baltimore, Md./Sparrows Point) broke the triple jump record with her mark of 10.60m, surpassing the mark of 10.43m set by
Rocksann Smith '28 at last year's Spartan Invitational (Jan. 10, 2025).
How It Happened
- Junior Jillian Zukley (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) collected St. Mary's College's highest finish of the day with a second-place finish in the weight throw with 15.01m. Zukley also placed seventh in the shot put with 11.11m.
- The distance medley relay team of first-year Charlotte Crabtree (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck), sophomore Ella Mitchell (Towson, Md./Bryn Mawr), junior Ellie Geiger (California, Md./Leonardtown), and first-year Elle Wilson (Westminster, Md./Westminster) placed fifth in 14:51.01.
- Schleig's performance in the triple jump earned her a sixth-place finish while running a 10.04 in the 60m hurdles for ninth place.
- Mitchell posted an 11th-place finish in the 3000m with a personal-best 11:52.67.
- Owens picked up an 11th-place finish with her record-breaking effort in the 400m dash while posting a personal-best 27.54 in the 200m dash for 26th place.
- Sophomore Rocksann Smith (Baltimore, Md./Baltimore City College) came in 12th in the 60m dash in 8.36.
- Wilson took 27th in the 800m run in 2:51.14.
