Seahawks Battle Back to Defeat Lancaster Bible in Four Sets

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. - The St. Mary's College of Maryland volleyball team (10-5, 2-0 United East) picked up its second consecutive United East victory on Wednesday evening, defeating Lancaster Bible College (4-6, 1-1 United East) in four sets at the Michael P. O'Brien Athletics & Recreation Center. After splitting the opening two sets, the Seahawks claimed the final two sets to earn the 3-1 victory, 25-21, 20-25, 25-20, 25-20. 

The Seahawks came out strong in the opening set, taking a 25-21 victory behind 13 kills. Lancaster Bible responded in the second set, earning a 25-20 win to even the match at 1-1. St. Mary's regained control in the third set, recording 11 kills while holding the Chargers to a .176 hitting percentage to take a 2-1 lead with another 25-20 victory. The Seahawks then closed out the match in the fourth set, posting a match-high 15 kills and hitting .297 on their way to another 25-20 win.

Maya Mauro led the Seahawks offensively with a match-high 15 kills while hitting .345 and adding two blocks. Julia Bobrowski followed with eight kills and a team high 17 digs, while Vlada Costenco also recorded eight kills. Sanaa Porter contributed six kills, and Hope Parrish added five kills and two blocks. Camilla Galeano helped direct the Seahawks offense with a team high 22 assists while also recording three service aces and nine digs. Stella Marrero added eight assists, two service aces, and 16 digs, while the Seahawks finished the match with 58 total digs. 

As a team, St. Mary's recorded 50 kills, 47 assists, 58 digs and seven service aces while hitting .197 for the match. The Seahawks also limited Lancaster Bible to a .176 hitting percentage. 

With the victory, St. Mary's improves to 2-0 in United East play and 10-5 overall. The Seahawks return to action on Friday, October 2, when they host McDaniel College at the Michael P. O'Brien Athletics & Recreation Center.
