ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – Fourteen Seahawks tallied at least one goal as the St. Mary's College of Maryland men's lacrosse team opened United East Conference play Friday afternoon (Feb. 20). St. Mary's College (2-1, 1-0 UEC) shutout Cairn University (0-1, 0-1 UEC), 27-0, as sophomore attackman
Owen Wynot (Kent Island, Md./Kent Island) notched a career- and game-best five goals to lead the way.
How It Happened
- The Seahawks owned a 7-0 lead after the first quarter of play behind a Wynot hat trick and two goals from sophomore midfielder Carson Giannelli (Perry Hall, Md./Archbishop Curley).
- SMCM put up a 12-spot in the second period as Wynot, junior Gavin McKay (Urbana, Md./Urbana), and attackmen Mike Machiran (Ellicott City, Md./Marriotts Ridge) and Jaxson Zapoli (Prince Frederick, Md./Calvert) each scored twice.
- Six different Seahawks found the back of the net in the third frame to push the lead to 25-0.
- Midfielders Luke Maciarello (Salisbury, Md./Parkside) and Duncan Boudreau (Towson, Md./St. Paul's) each notched a goal in the fourth for the 27-0 final.

- St. Mary's College outshot the Highlanders, 75-1, and grabbed a 58-8 margin in ground balls as senior Matteo Ciccarello (Crofton, Md./Arundel) matched his career-best of 26 ground balls.
- Ciccarello won 26-of-29 face-offs while senior midfielder Nick Machiran (Ellicott City, Md./Mount Hebron) went two-for-two at the X.
- The Seahawk defense caused 13 of Cairn's 22 turnovers with senior defenseman Joe Szymanski (Easton, Md./Easton) leading the way with five caused turnovers for the second time in his career.

- Junior Declan Horton (University Park, Md./DeMatha) was the third Seahawk to notch five points as Horton notched a goal and matched his career-high of four assists.
- First-year attackman Brady Manankil (Hereford, Md./Hereford) contributed a goal and three assists while Maciarello finished the game with a career-best three goals.
- Sophomore Ty Spencer (Hanover, Md./Indian Creek) and Conner Campbell (Mayo, Md./South River) split equal time in goal.
