St. Mary’s College Women’s Indoor Track & Field, Your 2026 United East Champions!

LANDOVER, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's indoor track & field team captured nine of 16 events to repeat as the United East Conference Women's Indoor Track & Field Champions Friday (Feb. 27) at the Prince George's Sports and Learning Complex.
 
St. Mary's College tallied 192 points to lead the four-team field. Lancaster Bible College came in second with 133 points while Penn State Harrisburg took third with 126. Carlow University rounded out the field in fourth with 26 points.
 
The Seahawks collected 19 All-United East honors while Director of Cross Country and Track & Field Reava Potter picked up her second straight United East Women's Indoor Track & Field Coach of the Year. Additionally, senior Savannah Owens (Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas Johnson) garnered United East Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Year while first-year Lacey Schleig (Baltimore, Md./Sparrows Point) was named the United East Women's Rookie of the Year.
 
SMCM set five school records as well as 16 personal-best marks and five season-best marks.
 
How It Happened
  • Sophomore Ella Mitchell (Towson, Md./Bryn Mawr) captured the one-mile run in a personal-best 5:42.41 while senior Kate Wachter (Takoma Park, Md./Montgomery Blair) came in fifth in 6:12.68.
  • Schleig claimed the top spot in the 60m hurdles with a personal-best time of 9.66 while sophomore Rocksann Smith (Baltimore, Md./Baltimore City College) took second in 10.43.
  • Owens won the 400m in 59.59, matching her own school record from Feb. 6, while senior Avery Arizzi (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) placed third in 1:02.90. Schleig went fifth with a personal-best time of 1:08.61.
  • Smith notched a first-place finish in the 60m dash with a school record and personal-best time of 8.07 while Owens took second in 8.23.
  • Arizzi crossed the finish line first in the 800m in 2:37.39 while junior Weiya Carter (Havre de Grace, Md./Towson) posted a personal-best time of 2:52.96 for fifth place.
  • Owen added a second individual title in the 200m with a school record and personal-best time of 26.83 while Smith finished third in 28.60. Schleig tallied a fourth-place finish in 29.11.
  • The foursome of Owens, Arizzi, Smith, and Schleig garnered a first-place finish in the 4x400m relay in 4:24.37.
  • Junior Jillian Zukley (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) picked up a first-place finish in the weight throw with a throw of 15.24m while senior Fladaïna Bruno (Columbia, Md./Oakland Mills) tallied 12.43m for fifth. Smith threw 11.83m for sixth place.
  • Zukley also went first in the shot put with 11.52m while Smith placed fifth with 10.17m.
  • Mitchell came in second in the 3000m with a school record and personal-best time of 11:09.79 while going second in the 5000m with a personal-best time of 19:37.49. Wachter went fifth in the 5000m with a personal-best time of 21:40.66 while taking sixth in the 3000m in 12:13.55.
  • Smith collected a pair of second-place finishes in the high jump (1.50m) and the triple jump (10.37m) while Schleig went fourth in both with 1.45m and 10.28m, respectively. Smith matched her own school record in the high jump.
  • First-year Elle Wilson (Westminster, Md./Westminster), juniors Ellie Geiger (California, Md./Leonardtown) and Alexis Hodges (Sugarland, Texas/Chopticon [Md.]), and Carter clocked a 15:28.03 for third place in the distance medley relay.
  • Smith went third in the long jump with 4.68m while Schleig finished fourth with a personal-best distance of 4.66m.
