PHOENIXVILLE, Pa. — The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's basketball team delivered a dominant all-around performance Saturday afternoon, defeating Valley Forge 100-15 in United East Conference action at the University of Valley Forge Gymnasium.
With the win, the Seahawks improve to 18-5 overall and 11-0 in conference play, while Valley Forge falls to 1-18 overall and 0-12 in the United East.
St. Mary's set the tone immediately, opening the contest on a decisive run and holding the Patriots scoreless in the first quarter while building a 25-0 lead. The Seahawks never relinquished control, extending their advantage to 48-5 at halftime before erupting for 30 third-quarter points to put the game out of reach.
Olivia Liszt led the Seahawks with 18 points, eight steals, and six rebounds, spearheading a defense that forced 51 Valley Forge turnovers and produced 55 points off those miscues. Samantha Blaylock added 20 points off the bench, knocking down six three-pointers, while Saffiyah Gibson contributed 17 points on 7-of-11 shooting.
Rayna Miller chipped in 10 points, and Keira Mason added 10 points and six rebounds to round out the balanced St. Mary's effort.
As a team, the Seahawks shot 49.4% (41-83) from the field, dominated the paint with 62 points inside, and received a strong lift from the bench with 61 points. St. Mary's also held a decisive 39-27 rebounding advantage.
Valley Forge was led by Gina Melendez with seven points, while Lucy Mauerman added six rebounds and six points.
St. Mary's returns to United East play next week as the Seahawks host Penn State Berks on Tuesday, February 10th at 7:00PM
