ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – Junior attackman
Gavin McKay (Urbana, Md./Urbana) matched his career-best five points for the fifth time this season as the St. Mary's College of Maryland men's lacrosse team's comeback attempt fell short Wednesday night (Mar. 11). St. Mary's College (4-3) dropped an 11-9 non-conference decision to Randolph-Macon College (6-2).
How It Happened
- Randolph-Macon opened action with three straight goals before sophomore attackman Owen Wynot (Kent Island, Md./Kent Island) put the Seahawks on the board with 2:30 left in the first quarter. Grant Sobel returned the Yellow Jackets' three-goal lead as time expired.
- After SMCM scored the first goal of the second frame, R-MC tallied another 3-0 run for a 7-2 advantage with 3:51 remaining in the half. St. Mary's College scored twice in a 23-second span to pull within 7-4 with 43 seconds on the clock. The two sides traded goals in the final 32 seconds, including a McKay goal with five ticks left, for an 8-5 Randolph-Macon lead at halftime.
- The Yellow Jackets began the second half with a 3-1 run to stake an 11-6 advantage with 13:26 to go in the game.
- Attackmen Declan Horton (University Park, Md./DeMatha), Quinn McLaughlin (Fallston, Md./Fallston), and Brady Manankil (Hereford, Md./Hereford) all found the back of the net to close the gap to two, but time ran out on the Seahawks.

- St. Mary's College had the narrow margin in ground balls, 35-31, thanks to nine ground balls from senior Matteo Ciccarello (Crofton, Md./Arundel).
