ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's lacrosse team and SUNY Geneseo engaged in a high-scoring affair Tuesday afternoon (Mar. 17) as the two teams combined for 33 goals. St. Mary's College (5-4) was edged by Geneseo (3-3), 17-16, in non-conference action at the Jamie L. Roberts Stadium.
How It Happened
- The first quarter was won by the Seahawks, 5-4, as five different players found the back of the net. Junior midfielder Adrian Garcia (Glenelg, Md./Glenelg) gave SMCM a 5-3 lead at 2:45 before Ryan Trebing scored with 47 seconds remaining.
- Geneseo captured the second period, 6-4, as there were five lead changes. Jake Perinchief and Jacob Pensabene notched goals 30 seconds apart to return a 10-9 lead to the Knights at halftime.
- A 2-1 run to start the second half gave Geneseo a 12-10 advantage at 13:26. St. Mary's College responded with a 4-0 run, including two from junior attackman Gavin McKay (Urbana, Md./Urbana), to end the third frame with a two-goal margin.
- Senior captain Joshua Martel (Linthicum, Md./North County) handed the Seahawks their biggest lead of the game, 15-12, just 44 seconds into the fourth quarter. Back-to-back goals by Pensabene and Ryan Trebing pulled the Knights within one with 13:51 to go. SMCM regained a two-goal lead on another McKay tally at 13:35.
- Geneseo jumped out back in front with three unanswered goals, including a pair from Ryan Trebing, within a five-minute span, taking a 17-16 lead with 6:38 remaining in the game.
- St. Mary's College turned the ball over four times and only generated two shots in the final minutes of the game.

- The Seahawks outshot the Knights, 50-40, while gaining a 40-31 edge in ground balls as senior Matteo Ciccarello (Crofton, Md./Arundel) scooped up a game-best 11.
- Ciccarello was 20-for-34 in faceoffs as SMCM won 20 of 35 faceoffs for the game.

- McKay finished the game with a career- and game-best seven points on five goals and two assists as well as three ground balls.
- Martel notched season-highs of four goals and five points as well as three ground balls and two caused turnovers.
- Sophomore attackman Owen Wynot (Kent Island, Md./Kent Island) contributed three goals and three ground balls.
- Senior defensemen Cooper Dunwoody (Sandy Spring, Md./Sherwood) and Adam Martin (Kent Island, Md./Kent Island) each caused two turnovers while Martin collected two ground balls.
- Sophomore goalie Ty Spencer (Hanover, Md./Indian Creek) made nine saves and picked up two loose balls.
SUNY Geneseo Game Notes
- Ryan Trebing (5g, 2a) and Ronnie Trebing (4g, 3a) combined for 14 points while Ben Bradshaw turned away 14 Seahawk shots.
