ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. — The St. Mary's College of Maryland baseball team earned a sweep of its United East Conference doubleheader against Rosemont College on Saturday afternoon at the Hawk's Nest, winning 11–7 in game one before taking game two, 13–7.
Game 1: St. Mary's 11, Rosemont 7
The Seahawks jumped out early and held off a mid-game surge from Rosemont to take the opener.
St. Mary's plated four runs in the first inning, capitalizing on defensive miscues before Will Wilson highlighted the frame with a two-RBI double. The Seahawks added two more runs in the second and three in the third to build a commanding 9–1 lead.
Rosemont responded with a five-run fourth inning to cut the deficit to 9–6, taking advantage of errors and timely hitting. The Ravens added another run in the fifth to make it a three-run game.
St. Mary's answered with single runs in the fourth and fifth innings, including an RBI single from DJ Sifford, to maintain control.
Rhett Fletcher led the offense with two hits and two RBIs, while Wilson drove in two runs and scored twice. Eli Shafer added two runs scored, and Connor Wilkerson contributed an RBI.
On the mound, Colin Patterson (2-0) earned the win in relief, tossing three strong innings while allowing just one run and striking out four.
Game 2: St. Mary's 13, Rosemont 7
The Seahawks used a decisive seven-run fifth inning to complete the sweep in the second game.
After falling behind 1–0, St. Mary's answered in the third inning as Connor Wilkerson tripled home a run before Aaron Wathen followed with an RBI single to give the Seahawks a 2–1 lead.
Rosemont tied the game in the fifth, but St. Mary's erupted in the bottom half of the inning. Wilkerson delivered an RBI single, Wathen added an RBI triple, and the Seahawks capitalized on multiple errors and a wild pitch to score seven runs and take a 9–2 lead.
The Seahawks continued to add on with runs in the sixth, seventh, and eighth innings to stay in front.
Wilkerson paced the offense with a 3-for-3 performance, driving in three runs and scoring three times. Wathen added two hits and two RBIs, while Eli Shafer chipped in two hits and two RBIs.
Ryan Matthews (3-1) earned the win, striking out eight over six innings while allowing just one earned run.
