BUENA VISTA, Va. – Sophomore attackman
Owen Wynot (Kent Island, Md./Kent Island) matched his career-high of five points in leading the St. Mary's College of Maryland men's lacrosse team to a second straight win Tuesday afternoon (Mar. 24). St. Mary's College (7-4) picked up a 15-4 non-conference win over Southern Virginia University (3-7).
How It Happened
- Wynot and senior defenseman Joe Szymanski (Easton, Md./Easton) both found the back of the net in the first four minutes of the game to give the Seahawks a 2-0 lead at 11:30. A pair of Southern Virginia goals leveled the contest at 2-2 with 6:24 remaining in the first quarter.
- SMCM outscored the Knights, 5-0, in the second frame and 6-0 in the third period as St. Mary's College rattled off 13 straight goals to stake a 15-2 advantage with 1:56 left in the third.
- The hosts scored the only two goals in the fourth quarter – one at 12:42 and the other at 6:07.

- The Seahawks outshot Southern Virginia, 45-24, while turnovers were equal at 23 apiece.
- SMCM gained a 48-23 advantage in ground balls as senior Matteo Ciccarello (Crofton, Md./Arundel) scooped up a team-best 14.

- Wynot finished the game with four goals and one assist plus one ground ball.
- Sophomore midfielder Carson Giannelli (Perry Hall, Md./Curley) had himself a day with career-bests of two goals and three helpers for a career-high five points. Giannelli also notched a ground ball and caused a turnover.
- Senior captain Joshua Martel (Linthicum, Md./North County) contributed three goals and one ground ball.
- Szymanski scored his second goal as a Seahawk while leading the defense with six ground balls and one caused turnover.
- Junior defensive midfielder Will Hock (Arlington, Va./Yorktown) and sophomore midfielder Jack Wojciechowski (Baltimore, Md./Curley) each notched a career-best three caused turnovers and two ground balls.
- Sophomore goalie Ty Spencer (Hanover, Md./Indian Creek) played the first three quarters of the game, making three stops and picking up two ground balls. First-year Conner Campbell (Mayo, Md./South River) came up with a career-best seven saves in the final 15 minutes of the game.
Southern Virginia Game Notes
- Myles Nielson led the Knights with two goals while Jace Lightfoot collected 18 saves.
