WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's tennis team remained undefeated in United East Conference play with a road win Saturday evening (March 28). St. Mary's College (6-4, 3-0 UEC) notched a 6-1 victory over Penn College (2-8, 1-2 UEC).
HOW IT HAPPENED
DOUBLES
- The Seahawks swept all three doubles to grab a 1-0 lead.
- First-years Lily Ganjbaksh (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) and Addyson Harden (Lexington Park, Md./Great Mills) blanked Ellen Buckley and Leah Vest at the first flight.
- Junior captain Lauren Lovejoy (Newburg, Md./La Plata) and sophomore Lily Spedden (Cambridge, Md./Cambridge South Dorchester) battled for a 6-4 victory over Faith Murray and Kiera Wene at No. 2.
- Junior Hazel Honeycutt (Lexington Park, Md./Great Mills) and sophomore Zoe Wilson (Clarksburg, Md./Holy Cross) notched a 6-1 triumph over Cierra Miller and Eliza Welshans at third doubles.
SINGLES
- SMCM quickly moved to a 2-0 lead after Penn College defaulted at No. 6 singles.
- Wilson (No. 4), Ganjbaksh (No. 1), and Harden (No. 5) all produced straight set victories, dropping only a combined two games. Ganjbaksh's 6-1, 6-0 win at first singles clinched the match win for St. Mary's College.
- The Wildcats avoided the shutout with Murray's 6-2, 6-1 triumph over Spedden at the No. 2 singles.
- Lovejoy wrapped up the match with a 7-6 (4), 6-3 victory over Wene at third singles.
