LANCASTER, Pa. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's tennis team notched their sixth consecutive win Wednesday afternoon (April 8) on the road. St. Mary's College (9-4, 6-0 UEC) won 6-1 over host Lancaster Bible College (4-7, 4-2) in United East Conference action.
HOW IT HAPPENED
DOUBLES
- Sophomore captain Stella Manns (White Hall, Md./North Harford) and first-year Jenna Roh (Abingdon, Md./North Harford) began doubles play with a 6-1 win over Becky Dimov and Sarah Lesher at No. 3 doubles.
- First-years Lily Ganjbaksh (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) and Addyson Harden (Lexington Park, Md./Great Mills) were next with a 6-0 victory over Sierra Hartmann and Jania Weist at No. 1 doubles.
- Junior captain Lauren Lovejoy (Newburg, Md./La Plata) and Lily Spedden (Cambridge, Md./Cambridge South Dorchester) wrapped up doubles action with a 6-1 triumph over Natalie Hoover and Lindsey Ochs at No. 2 doubles.
- The doubles sweep gave the Seahawks a 1-0 lead heading into singles action.
SINGLES
- Ganjbaksh blanked Hartmann at No. 1 singles while sophomore Zoe Wilson (Clarksburg, Md./Holy Cross) notched a 6-1, 6-2 win over Ochs at No. 4 singles for a 3-0 advantage.
- Hoover pulled the Chargers within 3-1 with a 6-1, 0-6, 7-5 triumph over Lovejoy at No. 3 singles.
- Spedden put on a gritty performance at No. 2 singles, clinching the match for SMCM with a 7-6 (4), 4-6, 6-1 triumph over Weist.
- Manns won 6-1, 6-3 over Dimov at No. 5 singles and Harden earned a 6-1, 6-3 victory at No. 6 singles to close out the match.
