Local Southern Maryland Product Named Seahawks Women’s Lacrosse Assistant Coach

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – Second-year Head Coach Madison Heck announced Thursday (July 9) the hiring of Emily Ransom (Prince Frederick, Md./Calverton) as the next full-time assistant women's lacrosse coach for the St. Mary's College of Maryland women's lacrosse program. Ransom began her duties July 8.
 
"We are so excited to have Emily on board. I believe she is going to help elevate this program to new heights. She brings great energy, a strong work ethic, and a genuine passion for developing our student-athletes," Heck said. "We're thrilled to welcome her to the St. Mary's family."
 
Ransom joins the women's lacrosse coaching staff following her four-year career at NCAA Division III Shenandoah University (Winchester, Va.) of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference.
 
"I am extremely excited and grateful for this opportunity. I can't wait to be a part of the Seahawk family!" Ransom expressed.
 
The Calvert County native was a two-time Second Team All-ODAC selection (2025 and 2026) as an attacker for the Shenandoah Hornets. She saw action in 69 contests, starting the final 38 games of her career. A two-year team captain, Ransom amassed 105 goals and 20 assists for 125 career points while adding 28 ground balls, 11 caused turnovers, and six draw controls.
 
She also served as a sports media and communications intern at Shenandoah, executing live broadcasts for men's and women's soccer and field hockey games. Ransom gathered content, photos, and updates as well as designed and produced branded game-day graphics to promote teams and increase social media visibility.
 
Ransom is a 2022 graduate of The Calverton School in Huntingtown, Md. She was a First Team All-Region selection as a junior and senior while garnering the Coaches Award twice as well (2021 and 2022). As a senior, Ransom was the recipient of the Meagher Award, an honor which recognizes students who portray outstanding leadership, integrity, sportsmanship, and strong moral character. She captained the Calverton Cougars from 2019 through 2022.
 
She graduated from Shenandoah in 2026 with a B.A. in Media and Communications and a B.S. in Public Health.
