FREDERICK, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's soccer team opened the 2026 campaign with a loss Tuesday evening (Sept. 1). St. Mary's College (0-1) fell 3-1 to host Hood College (1-0) in non-conference action.
How It Happened
- The two sides seemed poised to head into halftime in a scoreless draw before Hood jumped on the scoreboard with an own goal with just 38 seconds left in the first half.
- SMCM got right back in it 11 minutes into the second stanza as senior transfer Maximus Cerulla (Edgewater, Md./South River) knotted the game at 1-1 with his first goal as a Seahawk.
- The Blazers went back on top in the 72nd minute when Aidan Wright found the back of the net for the 2-1 home advantage.
- Hood notched a late insurance goal as N'Tony Kalala converted a penalty kick in the 88th minute.
