ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. — The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's soccer team rallied from a halftime deficit to defeat Hood College, 2-1, Tuesday evening at Jamie L. Roberts Stadium.
The Seahawks (1-0-0) found themselves trailing 1-0 at the break after Hood's Anais Esparza found the back of the net in the 36th minute. St. Mary's held a 6-4 advantage in shots during the opening half but was unable to find the equalizer before halftime.
St. Mary's continued to pressure the Hood defense after the break, earning four corner kicks while limiting the Blazers to just one shot in the second half. The Seahawks finally broke through in the 64th minute when senior Allie Petryszak headed home a pass from Sidney Shaw at 63:55 to level the contest at 1-1.
The Seahawks continued to push forward in search of the go-ahead goal, and their persistence paid off in the 82nd minute. Reagan Chilton scored in the 82nd minute to give St. Mary's their first lead of the evening.
St. Mary's controlled much of the offensive action throughout the contest, finishing with an 11-5 advantage in shots and a 5-2 edge in corner kicks. The Seahawks also put seven shots on target compared to two for Hood.
Goalkeeper Breanna Brown played all 90 minutes for the Seahawks and made one save, while Hood goalkeeper Marlie DeRenzis recorded four saves.
Petryszak and Chilton each finished with one goal, while Shaw added an assist. Petryszak also registered two shots, including one on goal, while Brooke Hall and Charlotte Bryan each recorded two shots.
With the victory, St. Mary's opens the 2026 season with a 1-0-0 record, while Hood falls to 0-1-0.
