St. Mary's City, Md - The St. Mary's College of Maryland volleyball team opened the 2026 season Tuesday evening, falling to Randolph-Macon, 3-0, at the Michael P. O'Brien Athletics & Recreation Center Arena.
The Yellow Jackets took the match by set scores of 25-20, 25-14, and 25-20.
St. Mary's battled throughout the opening set, keeping pace with Randolph-Macon early before the Yellow Jackets pulled away to take the frame, 25-20. The Seahawks struggled to find consistency offensively in the second set as Randolph-Macon built a 2-0 match lead with a 25-14 victory.
The Seahawks responded in the third set, but Randolph-Macon ultimately closed out the match with another 25-20 win.
The Seahawks were led offensively by
Erianna Mendieta, who recorded a team-high six kills on 27 attacks while adding two solo blocks and two block assists.
Sanaa Porter and
Julia Bobrowski each contributed three kills while
Maya Mauro added two kills.
St. Mary's setter
Stella Marrero tallied 11 assists, while
Lauren Panageotou added six assists. Defensively,
Elizabeth Childs paced the Seahawks with 10 digs.
Randolph-Macon was led by Olivia Leonard, who finished with 11 kills and a .370 hitting percentage while Allison Lach added 10 kills.
St. Mary's falls to 0-1 on the season, while Randolph-Macon improves to 1-0.
The Seahawks will look to bounce back this Saturday, September 5, at Stevenson University.
