ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. — The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's soccer team battled Stevenson University to a 1-1 draw Wednesday night at Jamie L. Roberts Stadium.
The Seahawks struck early, with sophomore Addison Campbell finding the back of the net just 2 minutes into the contest to give St. Mary's a 1-0 advantage.
St. Mary's continued to apply pressure throughout the opening half, putting 11 shots toward the Stevenson goal. The Mustangs eventually leveled the match in the 32nd minute when Stevenson was credited with an own goal, sending the teams into halftime tied at 1-1.
The Seahawks maintained the offensive pressure after the break, registering 10 second-half shots and earning six corner kicks in the final 45 minutes. Stevenson goalkeeper Isabella Serano kept St. Mary's off the scoreboard with four second-half saves.
Campbell nearly added to her total in the 66th minute, but her shot was saved by Serano. Keira O'Neail also forced a save in the 69th minute, while Megan Rusk and O'Neail each put additional shots on frame later in the half.
St. Mary's continued to push for the game-winner in the closing minutes, earning a corner kick in the 90th minute before Jill Kemp registered a final shot, but the Seahawks were unable to find the decisive goal.
The Seahawks finished the night with a commanding 21-6 advantage in shots and held a 7-4 edge in corner kicks. Breanna Brown made one save in goal for St. Mary's, while Stevenson goalkeeper Isabella Serano recorded eight saves.
With the draw, St. Mary's moves to 1-1-2 on the season, while Stevenson moves to 0-2-1.
Next Up: St. Mary's returns to action Saturday, Sept. 12, when the Seahawks travel to Salisbury University for the Salisbury Classic. St. Mary's will face John Carroll University at 4 p.m.
