BALTIMORE – It was another heartbreaking loss for the St. Mary's College of Maryland men's soccer team Wednesday night (Sept. 16). St. Mary's College (3-4-0) dropped its third one-goal loss of the season, falling 1-0 at Johns Hopkins University (3-2-1) in non-conference action.
How It Happened
- Johns Hopkins was the aggressor in the first half as the Blue Jays outshot the Seahawks, 7-3, and doubled up the visitors, 4-2, in corner kicks.
- JHU broke through in the 29th minute when Jason Pan finished off a pass from Rohan Aggarwal into the lower right corner for his first goal of the season.
- SMCM picked up the tempo over the final 45 minutes, edging Hopkins, 9-7, in shots and posting a 7-2 margin in corner kicks.
- John Ghanem turned away a shot by junior midfielder Zach Blaum (Mechanicsville, Va./Atlee) 39 seconds into the second stanza that was headed into the top left of the goal. Ghanem came up big again in the 85th minute as he denied another Blaum shot, this time bottom left.
