ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland sailing teams spent the weekend (Sept. 19-20) at the U.S. Naval Academy for all three regattas. St. Mary's College competed in the Chesapeake Invitational, the Chesapeake Open, and the Faye Bennet Middle Atlantic Intercollegiate Sailing Association (MAISA) Women's Singles.
 
CHESAPEAKE INVITATIONAL
The Seahawks finished second out of six teams at the Chesapeake Invitational with 153 points.
 
Sophomore skipper Mason Cook (Annapolis, Md./Key) and sophomore crew Haley Temme (Fair Lawn, N.J./Fair Lawn) placed second in Division A with 38 points. The sophomore duo captured Race 8A while taking second in Races 4A, 6A, and 7A.
 
In Division B, first-year skipper Owen Fretwell (San Diego, Calif./Cathedral Catholic) and sophomore crew Lauren Choi (Corona Del Mar, Calif./Waldorf School of Orange County) came in third with 45 points, claiming a pair of second-place finishes in Races 1B and 2B.
 
Skippers Davide Bazzoni (Miami, Fla./MAST Academy) and Scott Opert (Galesville, Md./Southern) and sophomore crew Molly Dowling (Lothian, Md./Southern) finished third with 70 points. Opert and Dowling placed third in Race 8C.
 
CHESAPEAKE OPEN
SMCM came in second in the nine-team field at the Chesapeake Open with 72 points.
 
Junior skipper Joe Marynowski (Buffalo, N.Y./Canisius) and junior crew Elise Jones (Cambridge, Md./Cambridge South Dorchester) took second in Division A with 25 points as the duo won three races (Races 1A, 4A, 7A).
 
First-year skipper Colin Krebs (San Diego, Calif.) and senior crew Mary Govan (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle) notched a third-place finish in Division B with 47 points, taking third in Race 3B.
 
FAYE BENNET
Senior skipper Lina Carper (Carlsbad, Calif./Coronado) placed 10th at the MAISA Women's Singles Conference Championship with 129 points, three points behind Gianna Dewey of Old Dominion University who finished ninth with 126 points.
