WASHINGTON, D.C. — The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to Catholic University Wednesday night at Carlini Field.
Catholic (4-2-1) scored the game's lone goal just 5:25 into the contest when Kathryn Scully found the back of the net off an assist from Reagan O'Mara. St. Mary's (1-5-3) battled throughout the remainder of the contest but was unable to find the equalizer.
The Seahawks created several opportunities in the opening half, putting three shots on frame. Charlotte Bryan and Gracie Tourangeau each forced saves from Catholic goalkeeper Madelyn Catania, while Bryan added a second shot before halftime.
Breanna Brown kept St. Mary's within striking distance throughout the contest, making 11 saves on Catholic's 12 shots on goal. Brown made six saves in the second half, including stops on shots from Scully, Meaghan McFarland, Emma Antonetti, and Caroline Aponte.
St. Mary's continued to pressure late. Sidney Shaw had a shot saved in the 59th minute, while Keira O'Neail and Jill Kemp each put shots on frame in the final five minutes. Catholic goalkeeper Lauren Creamer stopped both attempts to preserve the shutout.
The Seahawks finished with six shots, including five on goal, while Catholic recorded 21 shots and 12 shots on frame. St. Mary's held a 1-0 advantage in corner kicks.
