ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – It was a game of firsts for the St. Mary's College of Maryland women's soccer team on a rainy Saturday afternoon (Sept. 26) as St. Mary's College opened United East Conference action with a victory. The Seahawks (2-5-3, 1-0-0 UEC) posted a 4-0 shutout of Penn State Abington (0-8-1, 0-1-0 UEC) behind four different goal scorers who all tallied their first goals of the season.
How It Happened
- SMCM began scoring in the second minute of the game when junior forward Makayla Marvray (Chesapeake Beach, Md./Northern) finished off a cross from fellow classmate Gracie Tourangeau (Sykesville, Md./Century) for her first goal of the season.
- First-year midfielder Jill Kemp (Chesapeake, Va./Grassfield) doubled the lead for St. Mary's College in the 39th minute when Kemp ripped a long range shot top shelf for her first goal as a Seahawk, sending her team into halftime with a 2-0 lead.
- Junior defender Brooke Hall (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks South) gave the Seahawks a 3-0 advantage less than two minutes into the second half. First-year midfielder Charlotte Bryan (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown) sent a pass back to Hall, who rocketed a shot from about 20 yards out into the top left corner for the first of her junior campaign.
- Penn State Abington played a woman-down for the final 38 minutes after goalkeeper Sam Ridler received a straight red for a dangerous tackle outside the penalty box.
- Bryan scored her first collegiate goal in the 76th minute after she collected a long pass from senior captain Allie Petryszak (Baltimore, Md./Mercy) inside the box and dribbled closer before finding the lower left corner.

- St. Mary's College posted a 29-7 shot advantage, including a 19-0 margin in the first half. The Seahawks finished the game with a 14-2 advantage in shots on goal.
- SMCM doubled up the Nittany Lions, 6-3, in corner kicks.

- Sophomore Breanna Brown (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) made two saves in recording her second shutout of the season.

- Grace Smith led the Nittany Lions with three shots, including the team's two shots on goal.
- Ridler finished with four saves and three goals against while Kayla Kulp picked up four stops and yielded one goal.
