Seahawks Women's Soccer Falls 2-0 to Penn State Harrisburg

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. — The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to Penn State Harrisburg Tuesday afternoon at Jamie L. Roberts Stadium.

Penn State Harrisburg (3-5-1, 2-0-0 UEC) opened the scoring in the ninth minute when Abigail Mahaffey found the back of the net off an assist from Julia Hughes. The Seahawks created several opportunities throughout the opening half but were unable to find the equalizer.

Charlotte Bryan led St. Mary's with five shots, while Allie Petryszak added two shots, including a first-half attempt that hit the woodwork in the 28th minute. Alexandra Sarrach also recorded two shots.

Breanna Brown kept the Seahawks within striking distance, making three saves in the first half and finishing with three saves on six shots on goal.

St. Mary's continued to generate chances after halftime. Bryan recorded three second-half shots, while Petryszak put a shot on frame in the 82nd minute that was saved by Penn State Harrisburg goalkeeper Sydney Mulka.

The Lions added an insurance goal in the 73rd minute when Olivia Sgrignioli scored off another assist from Hughes, giving Penn State Harrisburg a 2-0 advantage.

The Seahawks finished with 11 shots, including one on goal, and earned five corner kicks. Penn State Harrisburg recorded 13 shots, six of which were on frame, and seven corner kicks.

With the loss, St. Mary's falls to 2-6-3 overall and 1-1 in United East play.

Next Up: St. Mary's returns to action Saturday, Oct. 3, when the Seahawks travel to Keystone College for a 4 p.m. United East contest.
