ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – Forwards
Nick Haney (Chesapeake Beach, Md./Northern) and
Tanner Bruce (Owings, Md./Northern) each scored for the St. Mary's College of Maryland men's soccer team Tuesday night (Sept. 29). However, St. Mary's College (3-7, 0-2 UEC) gave up a 2-1 halftime lead and dropped a 4-2 United East Conference decision to Penn State Harrisburg (3-5-1, 2-0-0 UEC).
How It Happened
- Penn State Harrisburg drew first blood in the 10th minute when Josiah Shamberger found the top left corner off a one-hop pass from Ariel Garcia.
- Haney tied the contest at 1-1 in the 27th minute with an unassisted goal, dribbling past two Lion defenders before taking a shot from the end line that skidded off the near post into the far-right corner.
- Three minutes before halftime, the Seahawks claimed a 2-1 lead when senior forward Franco Reyes (Silver Spring, Md./Montgomery Blair) sent in a cross from the left side and Bruce ran onto it, finding the left side of the goal.
- Harrisburg quickly knotted the game at 2-all at the start of the second half as Addis Tafese spun around and located the lower right corner in the 48th minute.
- The Lions put the game away with two goals in a span of 87 seconds to boast a 4-2 advantage with 25 minutes to go in the game.
- SMCM continued to generate quality scoring opportunities throughout the second half, but the team was unable to capitalize on those chances.

- Shamberger, Tafese and Kristopher Lage all took three shots each.
- Jimmy Shensky picked up seven saves in Harrisburg's third straight win.
- Harrisburg earns its first win over St. Mary's College since a 4-0 loss on Oct. 29, 2022.
