ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. - The St. Mary's College of Maryland volleyball team continued it's momentum Tuesday evening, sweeping Sweet Briar College, 3-0, at the Michael P. O'Brien Athletics & Recreation Center Arena. The Seahawks won by set scores of 25-20, 25-9, 25-13 to earn their second straight victory.
St. Mary's set the tone early, taking the opening set before dominating the second, 25-9. The Seahawks carried that energy into the third set, closing out the sweep with a 25-13 victory.
Vlada Costenco led the Seahawks offensively with seven kills while hitting an impressive .600.
Valen Mosley added four kills and provided a strong presence from the service line with five aces.
Maya Mauro contributed six kills, while
Erianna Mendieta added five kills.
The Seahawks also received strong contributions from
Camilla Galeano, who recorded 13 assists and seven service aces, and
Lauren Panageotou, who added nine assists. Defensively,
Elizabeth Childs paces St. Mary's with six digs.
St. Mary's controlled the match from start to finish, holding Sweet Briar to a -.120 hitting percentage while recording 18 service aces as a team.
With the win, the Seahawks improve to 2-2 on the season. They will return to action this weekend at the Maroon Classic in Salem, Va., opening play Friday against Salem College at 2 p.m. before facing Greensboro College at 8 p.m. The Seahawks will then take on Methodist at 1 p.m. and Brevard at 3 p.m. Saturday.
