forward Allie Scott (Laurel, Md./Atholton) scored
a game-high 20 points to lead the St. Mary's College of Maryland
women's basketball team over host Rowan University, 91-67 on Monday
night. The Seahawks are undefeated with a 3-0 record, while
the Profs are 2-1 overall.
Scott was a perfect 10-for-10 from the floor, grabbing nine
rebounds and having a season-best three steals as well.
Junior forward Kiely Murphy (Olney, Md./Good
Counsel) and sophomore guard Steph Saint-Aubin
(Bowie, Md./Elizabeth Seton) each totaled 18 points. Freshman
center Tiara Hurte (Baltimore, Md./Perry Hall)
contributed her second consecutive double-double with 14 points and
a game- and season-high 12 rebounds. Senior guard
Megan Uglik (Mt. Airy, Md./Linganore) added 10
points and dished out a season-high seven assists as all five
Seahawk starters notched double-digit scoring.
For Rowan, senior guard Kristina Wallace (Logan
Township, N.J./Kingsway Regional) scored 14 points, while sophomore
forward Amanda Jennings (Turnersville,
N.J./Washington Township) and freshman guard Gina
Catanzariti (Cinnaminson, N.J./Cinnaminson) had 11 and 10
points, respectively.
The score was tied four times in the first half before St.
Mary's took the lead for good. The last tie was at eight when
Scott hit a jumper at 14:36. The Seahawks followed with a
10-2 run to lead 18-10 with 11:07 left. Scott scored six
points, while Hurte had four. Rowan came back to trail by
three (20-17) after a layup by junior guard Brynn
DeGroff (Wildwood, N.J./Wildwood Crest) at 8:59. St.
Mary's had a surge of 14 straight points for a 17 point advantage
(34-17) in a five-minute span. It was the Seahawks' biggest
lead of the period. Murphy had 10 of the 14 points with five
baskets that included two threes.
St. Mary's was ahead 41-27 at the half as Murphy and Hurte each
totaled 10 points. Rowan was led by Jennings with eight
points.
The Seahawks' biggest lead of the game was 27 points, six times
in the second half. The first one came at 14:04 on Scott's
layup that made the score 62-35. The last one (88-61) was
after Hurte's jumper with 2:16 left. In the final period,
Scott and Saint-Aubin led St. Mary's with 12 points apiece.
Rowan starts its conference schedule at New Jersey City
University on Saturday, December 1 at 6:00. St. Mary's also
begins its conference play as the Seahawks host Villa Julie College
in a Capital Athletic Conference tilt on Wednesday, November 28 at
6:00.
