Washington, D.C. - The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's tennis team kicked off its fall portion of the 2008-09 campaign Friday afternoon with a non-conference match at Catholic University in which the Cardinals (2-0) notched a 7-2 win over St. Mary's.

Sam Barton (Edgewater, Md./The Key School) was a winner for Seahawks (0-1) at No. 3 singles as Barton handed freshman Matthew Netardus (Virginia Beach, Va.) a 1-6, 6-1, 7-6 (7-5) setback.

Sophomore Jeff Levy (Rockville, Md./Wootton) notched the other SMCM point as Levy defeated sophomore Joe Gribbin (Washington, D.C.) in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2. 

The Seahawks return to action tomorrow when St. Mary's travels to Buena Vista, Va. to face Southern Virginia University in another non-conference contest at 3:30.
