Buena Vista, Va. - A 7-2 triumph over Southern Virginia University on Saturday afternoon helped the St. Mary's College of Maryland men's tennis team improve to 1-1 on the young season.

Sam Barton (Edgewater, Md./The Key School) and sophomore Jeff Levy (Rockville, Md./Wootton) both remained undefeated at 2-0 in singles action.  Barton notched a 6-7 (3-7), 6-1, 10-8 win over sophomore Kody Chacon (Bowie, Md./Bowie) at No. 3 singles, while Levy posted a 6-1, 6-1 victory over freshman Phillip Whiteley (Logan, Utah) at No. 5 singles.

Freshman Thomas Hoesman (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) picked up his first collegiate win with a 6-0, 6-2 triumph over freshman Hunter Horsley (Phoenix, Ariz.) at No. 6 singles.

The tandem of junior Drew Barnes (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) and freshman Robbie Bourdon (Huntingtown, Md./Huntingtown) notched their first career victory with an 8-5 win over Whiteley and freshman Thad Davis (Bloomfield, Iowa) at No. 3 doubles.

The Seahawks return to action tomorrow when St. Mary's travels to Norfolk, Va. to face Virginia Wesleyan College in a non-conference tilt at 10:00 am.
