St. Mary's City, Md. - Four Seahawk starters
tallied twin figures as the St. Mary's College of Maryland women's
basketball team notched a dominant 80-19 non-conference victory
over Christendom College Wednesday night.
St. Mary's (5-10) balanced attack was led by senior forward
Allie Scott's (Laurel, Md./Atholton) game-high 18
points on 8-of-12 shooting in 22 minutes of action.
A 19-0 start to the contest was all she wrote as the Seahawks
shot 64.7% in the first half and raced off to a 52-9 halftime
advantage. Thirty-six of their 52 first-half points came off
the 25 turnovers committed by Christendom (1-5).
Sophomore forward Tiara Hurte (Baltimore,
Md./Perry Hall) picked nine points in the first 20 minutes to pace
SMCM, while junior center Alex Wenger (Baltimore,
Md./Perry Hall) and sophomore guard Jamie Roberts
(Rockville, Md./Barrie) each had eight points.
The Crusaders' senior forward Abby Hill
(Woodstock, Md.) netted six of her team's nine points.
St. Mary's finished the game shooting 61.1%, including making
6-of-8 from downtown. The Seahawks also racked up 26 steals
behind freshman guard Octavia Davis' (Baltimore,
Md./Baltimore City College) season-high five steals, while senior
forward Kiely Murphy (Olney, Md./Good Counsel) and
sophomore guard Megan Seeman (Frederick,
Md./Linganore) each had four steals.
Wenger contributed 13 points and five boards,
while Hurte finished with 11, a season-high four
assists and three steals. Roberts chipped in
10 points and three steals.
Hill ended up as the Crusaders' scoring leader
with eight points, six caroms, and five steals, while sophomore
forward Mary Hill (Woodstock, Md.) had a game-high
seven rebounds and five points.
St. Mary's returns to action this Saturday, January 24 when the
Seahawks travel to Dover, Del. to take on Wesley College in a key
Capital Athletic Conference contest at 2:00.
