St. Mary's City, Md. - The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's basketball team gave the 12th-ranked Spartans of York (Pa.) College bouts of fits throughout the game but York was able to pull out a 75-60 Capital Athletic Conference victory Saturday afternoon, extending its win streak to a school-record 20 straight.

Both squads traded baskets in the contest's first 6:15, knotting the game at 12 all.  York (20-1, 13-0 CAC) took a modest 18-12 lead at 11:46, but the Seahawks kept plugging away and pulled within two as senior forward Allie Scott (Laurel, Md./Atholton) sank a pair of free throws at 10:08.

The Spartans posted a 45-30 halftime advantage following a 15-6 run to distance themselves from St. Mary's.  The visiting team had three players in double figures, led by senior guard Keli Ward's (Nottingham, Pa./Oxford) 14 points.  Sophomore guard April Sparkman (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) added 12, while senior forward Chanel Perez (Biglerville, Pa./Gettysburg) had 10 for YCP.

St. Mary's (7-14, 5-8 CAC) came out reenergized in the second half, using a 17-6 run in a 7:37 span to knock down its 15-point deficit to just four (51-47).  However, the Seahawks were unable to get any closer as Sparkman sparked a 9-2 run which kept York ahead in double figures for the remainder of the game.

Perez and Ward combined for 23 of the team's 44 rebounds as York tallied a marginal 44-38 advantage on the boards.

Sparkman led all scorers with 24 points, while Ward finished the afternoon with a double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds along with a game-high six assists.  Perez contributed 15 points and a dozen caroms.

Sophomore center Tiara Hurte (Baltimore, Md./Perry Hall) paced the Seahawks as Hurte registered her second consecutive game with 22 points on 10-of-19 shooting, while grabbing a game-high 13 boards for her 12th career double-double.  Scott went on to finish in double digits as well with 18, while chipping in seven caroms.

The Seahawks will return to action next Wednesday, February 11, traveling to Fredericksburg, Virginia to take on the University of Mary Washington in conference play.  Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 and will be followed by the men's game at 8:00.
