St. Mary's City, Md. - An 8-0 run in the second half helped the 15th-ranked St. Mary's College of Maryland women's lacrosse team overcome a two-goal deficit to notch a 14-9 non-conference victory over Roanoke College Tuesday afternoon.

Senior midfielder Lauren Carrier (Crownsville, Md./Old Mill) tallied six goals and a helper in extending her NCAA Division III record for consecutive games with at least one goal to 48 straight.  Carrier started the streak as a freshman on April 15, 2006 with one goal in a 10-9 loss to the University of Mary Washington.  Sophomore midfielder Aubrey Mirkin (Ashton, Md./Sherwood) added four points on two goals and two assists, while midfielders Allie Zerhusen (Cockeysville, Md./Park) and Caitlin Nichols (Baltimore, Md./McDonogh) each notched two goals.

Roanoke (3-2) led the entire first half as the Maroons started with three unanswered goals before Carrier put the Seahawks on the board with an unassisted goal at 17:55.  Junior attacker Sunni Ray (Severna Park, Md./Severn) returned RC's three-goal cushion at 16:22 then the teams traded the next two goals before back-to-back goals by Carrier cut the Maroons' lead to 5-4 at 9:58.  A free position goal by each squad made the halftime score 6-5 in Roanoke's favor.

Two goals by junior midfielder Gina Valles (South Windsor, Conn./Westminster) pushed the Maroons' lead to 8-6 at 28:06.  Then Zerhusen sparked St. Mary's 8-0 run at 26:18 as she completed a pass from senior attacker Emily Norris (Timonium, Md./Dulaney).  Junior attacker Nora Fallon-Oben (Silver Spring, Md./St. John's [D.C.]) scored the Seahawks' final goal at 10:48, while Valles found the back of the net at 4:16 on a free position shot for Roanoke's final tally of the game.

Valles finished the afternoon with four goals and an assist, while junior attacker Brooks Laufman (Annapolis, Md./Severn) contributed two scores and a helper for the Maroons.

St. Mary's (5-1) captured 17 of 25 draw controls, including a 10-3 advantage in the second half, as Mirkin grabbed a game-high four draws, while the Seahawks out-shot Roanoke, 30-26.

The Maroons edged St. Mary's in ground balls, 19-17, as senior goalie Katlyn Scarlett (Reisterstown, Md./St. Paul's School for Girls) picked up a game-high four.  Scarlett finished with 12 saves in the loss.
