Frederick, Md. - The Hood College men's tennis team outlasted St. Mary's College of Maryland for a 6-3 victory Friday in the regular-season finale for both schools.

St. Mary's (11-9, 2-4 CAC) headed into singles action down 3-0 and was never able to fully recover.

Juniors Sam Barton (Edgewater, Md./Key), Kenny Nugent (Pocomoke, Md./Pocomoke), and Drew Barnes (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) were all victorious for the Seahawks in singles play as Barton won 8-6 at No. 4, Nugent picked up a 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 5 and Barnes notched an 8-2 victory at No. 6.

With the win, Hood (4-14, 2-4 CAC) earned the fifth seed in the 2009 Capital Athletic Conference Tournament, which begins Saturday.  As the sixth seed, St. Mary's will travel to York, Pa., to take on third-seeded York in first round action tomorrow.
