St. Mary's City, Md. - Catholic University handed the St. Mary's College of Maryland men's tennis team a 5-4 setback in the Seahawks' home-opener Saturday afternoon.  The loss marked the first one for the Seahawks this season.

Freshman Daniel Valverde's (Guayaquil, Ecuador/Torremar) 6-1, 6-1 victory over sophomore Thomas Hoesman (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) at No. 1 singles sealed the 5-4 win for Catholic as the Cardinals owned a 5-2 advantage in the match following Valverde's win.

Sophomore Robbie Bourdon (Huntingtown, Md./Huntingtown) and freshman Joshua Olexa (Prince Frederick, Md./Huntingtown) notched the Seahawks only doubles win as the duo posted an 8-6 victory over the tandem of freshmen Kyle Kramer (Pottstown, Pa.) and Robert Shuman (Virginia Beach, Va.) at No. 3 doubles.

St. Mary's will return to action tomorrow when the Seahawks travel to Abington, Pa. to take on Penn State Abington at 3:00 pm.
