Fallon-Oben (Silver Spring, Md./St. John's College
[D.C.]) and Erin Shackelford (Annapolis,
Md./Annapolis) each tallied four points in leading St.
Mary's College of Maryland to its first victory of the 2010
season in its second game of the day as the Seahawks (2-6) posted a
15-8 triumph over Kean University at Walt Disney's Wide World
of Sports in Florida after dropping a 14-11 decision to Dickinson
College just an hour before.
Fallon-Oben recorded a hat trick and an assist
while Shackelford contributed a goal and three
assists. First-year midfielder Lauriann
Parker (Woodbine, Md./Glenelg) also notched a hat trick
while attackers Maggie Macleay (Annapolis, Md./St.
Mary's Ryken) and Remina Greenfield
(Columbia, Md./Oakland Mills) and junior midfielder Aubrey
Mirkin (Ashton, Md./Sherwood) each picked up two goals
apiece.
Kean (1-4) scored the first three goals of the game before
Mirkin put the Seahawks (1-6) on the scoreboard
off an assist by Shackelford at 21:05. The
Cougars tallied the next two goals before Mirkin
and Greenfield cut the lead to 5-3 at halftime
with the last two goals of the half.
First-year midfielder Lyndsey Cannon (Delran,
N.J./Delran) paced Kean with a hat trick while senior defender
Chelsea Davis (Livingston, N.J./Livingston) and
junior midfielder Erica Kelly (West Deptford,
N.J./West Deptford) each added two goals apiece.
The second half was all about the Seahawks as St. Mary's
rattled off 12 second-half goals, including the game's final
seven to break an 8-8 tie following Cannon's
last goal of the game at 13:30.
St. Mary's outshot the Cougars, 31-21, and captured the
ground ball battle, 26-12 as first-year defender Natalie
Hackstaff (Denver, Colo./St. Mary's Academy) picked
up a game-high four. The Seahawks also controlled the draws,
13-8, as Shackelford and Mirkin
each won four.
Sophomore Colleen Simpson (Arnold,
Md./Broadneck) made seven saves in the second half in relief of
first-year Katie Hammerer (Leonardtown,
Md./Leonardtown) to pick of her win of the season.
Junior Brittany Gibbs (West Deptford, N.J./West
Deptford) made 11 stops in the loss.
St. Mary's will return to action next Tuesday, March 23 as
the Seahawks host Virginia Wesleyan College in non-conference
action at 4:00 pm in Seahawk Stadium.
