St. Mary's City, Md. – Senior
captain Nora Fallon-Oben (Silver Spring, Md./St.
John's College [D.C.]) matched two school single-game records
Tuesday afternoon with eight goals and 10 points in powering St.
Mary's College of Maryland to a convincing 19-9 victory over
Virginia Wesleyan College in non-conference women's lacrosse
action.
Fallon-Oben equaled the single-game record for
most points in a game with 10 as she tied the mark with former head
coach Carol (Schmoeller) Hatton '04
(set it three times) and Karli Libertini
'05 while her eight goals matched
Schmoeller's mark set back on March
29, 2003 versus Lynchburg College.
Midfielders Aubrey Mirkin (Ashton,
Md./Sherwood) and Lauriann Parker (Woodbine,
Md./Glenelg) also tallied multiple-goal efforts for St.
Mary's (2-6) as each found the back of the net three
times. The Fallon-Oben,
Mirkin, and Parker trio accounted
for nearly three-quarters of the Seahawks' 19 goals.
St. Mary's scored in groups of three in the first half,
including closing out the half with four goals in a 2:30-minute
span as Fallon-Oben notched the final three goals
in nearly two minutes. The Seahawks headed into intermission
with a 13-4 advantage.
Senior attacker Laura Norris (Hollywood,
Md./Leonardtown) paced Virginia Wesleyan (3-6) with three goals and
two assists while junior Tara Harding (Waterford,
N.Y./Clifton Park Shenendehowa) and sophomores Natalie
Belva (Colorado Springs, Colo./Liberty) and
Courtney Williams (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown)
all scored twice.
Williams netted the first goal of the second
half before St. Mary's rattled off four straight.
Harding then sparked a 3-0 Marlin run with two
goals before Fallon-Oben tallied two of the final
three goals of the game.
St. Mary's outshot the visitors by a 35 to 18 margin while
doubling up the Marlins in draw controls, 20 to 10, as
Mirkin and Parker led the way
with four draw controls apiece. The Seahawks also edged VWC
in ground balls as Fallon-Oben scooped up a
game-high five loose balls.
The Seahawk goalkeeping staff combined for seven stops with
junior Jamie Roberts (Rockville, Md./Barrie)
picking up the start and making five saves in the first half.
Sophomores Brittany MacKnew (Abingdon, Md./Bel
Air) and Michelle Mace (Dumfries, Va./Woodbridge
Forest Park) split equal time in goal and joined together for seven
saves.
The Seahawks hope to knock off No. 1 Salisbury University on
Sunday, March 28 when the Sea Gulls come to Seahawk Stadium for a
Capital Athletic Conference contest at 2:00 pm for the 2nd Annual
Breast Cancer Awareness Game (Pink Out Day).
