No. 1 Salisbury Remains Undefeated as Pink Out Day A Success

St. Mary's City, Md. – Three Sea Gulls tallied five points as No. 1 Salisbury University remained undefeated with a 20-8 Capital Athletic Conference women's lacrosse victory over St. Mary's College of Maryland Sunday afternoon. 

St. Mary's Women's Lacrosse in Pink Uniforms In conjunction with today's game, the Seahawks hosted their 2nd Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Game and raised proceeds for Climb for Hope through pink t-shirt sales and a 50/50 raffle.  Last season, St. Mary's donated over $3700 to Climb for Hope (www.climbforhope.com).

Junior attacker Logan Bilderback (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) found the back of the net five times while junior attacker Trish DiGirolomo (Davidsonville, Md./Spalding) dished out five assists.  Senior attacker Kim Cudmore also finished with five points as Cudmore scored once and helped out on four others.  Seniors Beth Rhodey (Fallston, Md./Notre Dame Prep) and Jessica Chmielewski (Woodbine, Md./South Carroll) also put forth a strong effort for Salisbury with four points each.

Three goals from Rhodey and a pair from Bilderback helped the Sea Gulls (11-0, 3-0 CAC) post a 6-0 margin with 13:57 remaining in the first half.  Junior midfielder Aubrey Mirkin (Ashton, Md./Sherwood) interrupted Salisbury's scoring  when she took a feed from senior captain Nora Fallon-Oben (Silver Spring, Md./St. John's College [D.C.]) at 12:19.  The visitors outscored St. Mary's, 3-2, in the 9:55 of the first half to own a 9-3 halftime advantage.

Mirkin and first-year midfielder Lauriann Parker (Woodbine, Md./Glenelg) paced SMCM (2-7, 0-2 CAC) in scoring with two goals apiece while Fallon-Oben added a goal and an assist.

The two teams scored within 30 seconds of each other as Rhodey struck at 28:57 followed by Mirkin at 28:27.  Junior midfielder Aileen McCausland (Phoenix, Md./Hereford) sparked a 4-0 run for the Sea Gulls before sophomore attacker Melissa Mayer (Crofton, Md./South River) and first-year midfielder Erin Shackelford (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis) converted on their respective free-position shots to slow down Salisbury.  The Sea Gulls then netted the next four goals, including two in 10 seconds, to seal the win.

Salisbury edged the Seahawks in both shots (31-30) and ground balls (21-17) while St. Mary's claimed draw controls, 16-14, as Mirkin won four and Fallon-Oben and junior defender Arianna Larrimore (Stevensville, Md./Kent Island) each had three.

Junior Julie Ann Caulfield (Drexel Hill, Pa./Upper Darby) picked up four saves in the first half for the Sea Gulls while first-years Keli Berkman (Salisbury, Md./James M. Bennett) and Ali Meeks (Pasadena, Md.) combined for 10 stops in the second half.

Junior Jamie Roberts (Rockville, Md./Barrie) made nine stops in the loss with four ground balls and one caused turnover.

The Seahawks look to get back in win column Tuesday, March 30 as St. Mary's hosts Hood College in another league tilt at 4:00 pm in Seahawk Stadium.
