St. Mary's City, Md. – Twelve
different Seahawk players scored for the St. Mary's College
of Maryland women's lacrosse team in the Seahawks' 22-4
victory over Hood College in Capital Athletic Conference action
Tuesday afternoon. Senior captain Nora
Fallon-Oben (Silver Spring, Md./St. John's College
[D.C.]) paced St. Mary's in the win with four goals and six
points.
Fellow captain, Kelsey Branch (Jarrettsville,
Md./North Harford), contributed four helpers and a goal while
first-year midfielder Lauriann Parker (Woodbine,
Md./Glenelg) added two goals and three goals. First-year
midfielder Erin Shackelford (Annapolis,
Md./Annapolis) recorded a hat trick while junior attacker
Maggie Macleay (Annapolis, Md./St. Mary's
Ryken) finished the day with two goals and an assist.
St. Mary's (3-7, 1-2 CAC) rolled out a 7-0 lead as
Parker and Fallon-Oben each found
the back of the net twice. Senior midfielder Lauren
Perzan (Baltimore, Md./Perry Hall) put Hood on the
scoreboard with an unassisted goal at 14:24. The Seahawks
closed out the half with five unanswered goals to post a 12-1
advantage at halftime.
Four different players scored for Hood (2-8, 0-6 CAC), who is
still looking for its first conference win of the season.
The Seahawks opened up the second half with three more goals
before junior attacker Kelsey Blackwell
(Gaithersburg, Md./Gaithersburg) and sophomore center Katie
Vu (Baltimore, Md./Kenwood) netted back-to-back goals for
the Blazers. St. Mary's scored seven of the final eight
goals to seal the win.
St. Mary's outshot Hood, 43-10, while outhustling the
Blazers on ground balls, 31-15, as Shackelford led
the way with five loose ball pick-ups. The Seahawks also
claimed a 17-11 margin on draw controls behind four from sophomore
midfielder Laura Leigh Cooper (Fruitland,
Md./James Md. Bennett).
Sophomore Colleen Simpson (Arnold,
Md./Broadneck) made four stops in the first half while first-year
Katie Hammerer (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown)
finished out the game with a start in the second half.
Sophomore Sam Liptrap (Baltimore, Md./Kenwood)
turned away 12 shots and had two ground balls in the loss.
The Seahawks look to continue their winning ways this Saturday,
April 3 as St. Mary's hosts York (Pa.) College in league
action at 12:00 pm in Seahawk Stadium.
