St. Mary's Shocks No. 17 Stevenson

Owings Mills, Md. – First-year midfielder Lauriann Parker (Woodbine, Md./Glenelg) tallied season-highs of seven goals and nine points in leading the St. Mary's College of Maryland women's lacrosse team to a 13-8 upset of No. 17 Stevenson University Saturday afternoon in Capital Athletic Conference action.

Senior attacker Nora Fallon-Oben (Silver Spring, Md./St. John's College [D.C.]) added two goals and two assists while junior midfielder Aubrey Mirkin (Ashton, Md./Sherwood) found the back of the net twice.  Senior captain Kelsey Branch (Jarrettsville, Md./North Harford) contributed to the Seahawk offense with three assists.

Stevenson (8-5, 3-3 CAC) and St. Mary's (6-7, 4-2 CAC) were even in the game's first 14 minutes at 2-2 before the Seahawks used a 3-0 run to gain the lead at 12:07 as Fallon-Oben scored twice.  Stevenson closed out the half on a 2-1 run to make it 6-4 St. Mary's at halftime.

Senior midfielder Kristyna Hnizda (Manchester, Md./North Carroll) was the only multiple goal scorer for Stevenson with two while junior attacker Megan Weiss (Odenton, Md./Seton) chipped in a goal and an assist.

The Mustangs never got any closer than two goals the rest of the way as Parker unleashed five second-half goals including three in a seven minute span to give St. Mary's a 12-8 advantage with 4:19 remaining in the game.  Mirkin notched the final Seahawk goal with 18 seconds left.

St. Mary's and Stevenson were dead-even on shots at 27 apiece while the Seahawks edged Stevenson in ground balls (9-8) and draw controls (12-11).  Mirkin paced the team with a game-high four draw controls while Mirkin and junior defender Elisa Bateman (Sparks, Md./Hereford) each scooped up two loose balls.

Junior Jamie Roberts (Rockville, Md./Barrie) notched 14 saves for her third win of the season.

Sophomore Jenny Schroeder (Severna Park, Md./Seton Keough) turned away seven shots in the loss.

The Seahawks will travel to Dover, Del. to wrap up the 2010 Capital Athletic Conference season against Wesley College on Tuesday, April 13 at 4:00 pm.
