Box Score

St. Mary's City, Md. – No. 3 seed St. Mary's College of Maryland fended off a pesky sixth-seeded Marymount (Va.) University squad for a 17-10 victory in first round action of the 2010 Capital Athletic Conference Women's Lacrosse Tournament Saturday afternoon.  First-year midfielder Lauriann Parker (Woodbine, Md./Glenelg) paced St. Mary's in the win with a game-high seven points.

Parker tallied a goal and game-high six assists while juniors Aubrey Mirkin (Ashton, Md./Sherwood) and Maggie Macleay (Annapolis, Md./St. Mary's Ryken) each scored four goals.  Sophomore midfielder Lauren Bennett (Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas Johnson) contributed to the Seahawk offense as well with a hat trick and an assist.

The Seahawks (8-7) now advance to the CAC semifinals at second-seeded University of Mary Washington on Tuesday, April 20 in Fredericksburg, Va.  No. 4 seed Stevenson University will take on seven-time defending champion, Salisbury University, in Tuesday's other semifinal contest as the Mustangs notched a 16-7 win over fourth-seeded York (Pa.) College today.

Marymount (3-11) used a 5-2 run in a 10-minute span to erase a four-goal deficit and pull within 10-9 with 15:30 remaining in the contest as senior midfielder Sara Horne (Severna Park, Md./Mount deSales) scored three times in the run, including two right after winning the draw control.

St. Mary's clamped down on defense as the Seahawks forced nine turnovers, while the attacking unit did their part by scoring seven of the game's final eight goals as Mirkin, Macleay and Bennett each netted two goals apiece in the 7-1 run, including Bennett's back-to-back goals in 15 seconds.

First-year midfielder Stephanie Flood (Westborough, Mass./Westborough) found the back of the net four times to lead the Saints in scoring while Horne finished with a hat trick and sophomore Lindsay Quinn (Mansfield, Mass./Mansfield) added two goals.

St. Mary's broke a 1-1 draw with five unanswered scores, including two from Macleay, to boast a 6-1 advantage with 13:20 left in the first half.  Flood notched her first two goals of the day in the 6:22 of the half to cut the Seahawks' lead to 6-3 at halftime.

The Seahawks outshot Marymount, 41-20, while the Saints edged the home team, 28-27, in ground balls.  First-year midfielder Erin Shackelford (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis) won four draw controls to help SMCM post a 15-14 advantage while Mirkin scooped up a game-high eight loose balls.

Junior Jamie Roberts (Rockville, Md./Barrie) made four saves, grabbed three ground balls and had one caused turnover in the Seahawk win while senior Ashley Dodge (Clifton Springs, N.Y./Midlakes) turned away 11 shots and had five ground balls in the loss.
