Box Score
St. Mary's City, Md. – First-year
midfielder Lauriann Parker (Woodbine, Md./Glenelg)
set two single-game school records with a 9-goal, 12-point
performance as the St. Mary's College of Maryland
women's lacrosse team edged Christopher Newport University,
20-18, in a display of offensive power by both sides.
The CNU defense was powerless against Parker as
she fired in a game-high nine goals in notching the single-game
record for most goals in a game, surpassing the old mark of eight
set by former head coach Carol (Schmoeller) Hatton
'04 in 2003 and equaled by senior attacker
Nora Fallon-Oben (Silver Spring, Md./St.
John's College [D.C.]) this season.
Parker dished out three assists as well to
finish the afternoon with 12 points to register the single-game
record for most points in a game, beating the original mark of 10
tallied by three players five times, including once by
Fallon-Oben this season.
Fallon-Oben ended the game with two goals and a
helper while first-year midfielder Erin Shackelford (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis) and sophomores
Melissa Mayer (Crofton, Md./South River) and
Lauren Bennett (Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas
Johnson) each added two goals.
Meghan Harkey found the back of the net four
times in the first half en route to six goals on the day as
Harkey helped Christopher Newport (12-5) to a 10-9
advantage at halftime, scoring the go-ahead goal with five seconds
remaining in the half off an assist by Kaitlin
Quigley.
Joining Harkey with a multiple-point afternoon
were Rachel Tomlinson with four goals and an
assist and Quigley with two goals and three
assists while Natalie Gilbert and Becca
Geist each chipped in three goals and an assist.
St. Mary's (9-8) opened up the second stanza with three
goals, including a Mayer pair, for its first lead
since a 1-0 margin at 28:41. However, a four-goal run with
two goals by Tomlinson put the Captains on top
15-13 with 18:30 left in the game. The Seahawks responded
with a four-goal run of their own in a near seven-minute span to
regain the lead for good at 5:10 (19-17).
Tomlinson pulled CNU within one at 1:48 but
Parker sealed the win with a goal at 00:02.
St. Mary's dominated the draw controls, 25-15, as junior
midfielder Aubrey Mirkin (Ashton, Md./Sherwood)
notched a game-high six draws while Shackelford
and sophomore midfielder Laura Leigh Cooper
(Fruitland, Md./James M. Bennett) each had five. CNU edged
the Seahawks in both shots (36-35) and ground balls (13-7).
Junior Jamie Roberts (Rockville, Md./Barrie)
had a great day for the Seahawks, making 11 saves and assisting on
a Parker goal in the second half.
Roberts denied a Quigley shot and
then heaved a pass to Parker for a 13-11 lead at
22:36.
Gayle Robinson picked up eight shots and three
ground balls in the loss.
St. Mary's will wrap up its 2010 season on Wednesday, May
5 as the Seahawks host Randolph-Macon College on Senior Day at 4:00
pm. St. Mary's will recognize its three seniors prior
to the start of Wednesday's contest: attacker Kelsey Branch (Jarrettsville, Md./North Harford), defender
Alex Bertrand (Annapolis, Md./St. Mary's,
Annapolis), and Fallon-Oben.
