St. Mary's City, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's tennis team kicked off the 2010-11 campaign with a 'W' as the Seahawks posted a 7-2 victory over Shenandoah University Saturday afternoon.

St. Mary's (1-0) headed into singles action with a 2-1 advantage, claiming victories at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles.  The Seahawks then jumped out to a 6-1 lead, sweeping the first four singles flights.

Junior captain Thomas Hoesman (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) and first-years Andrew Gear (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill), John Feighner (Laurel, Md./Atholton), and Guy Guzzone, Jr. (Columbia, Md./Hammond) all picked up wins in both singles and doubles action.

First-year Vladimir Daskalov (Winchester, Va./Handley) notched a straight set 6-0, 6-2 victory over first-year Devin Turk (Phoenix, Md./Hereford) at No. 6 singles for the Hornets' (0-1) second and final match point.

The Seahawks return to action next Sunday, September 19 as St. Mary's travels to Virginia Beach to take on Virginia Wesleyan College in non-conference action at 1:00 pm.
