Box Score

Gettysburg, Pa. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's basketball team started the New Year with a setback in the first day of action at the 21st Annual Days Inn Tournament hosted by Gettysburg College on Sunday.  Sophomore guard Pui Sham (Springfield, Va./W. Springfield) put up 12 points as the Seahawks dropped a 68-53 decision to University of Scranton to have their winning streak stopped at three games.

The Seahawks (6-4) will now face Randolph College in the consolation game Monday afternoon at 2:00 pm as Randolph suffered an 85-33 setback against Gettysburg.  The host Bullets will take on Scranton in the championship contest at 4:00 pm.

St. Mary's led once in the game as senior forward Jamie Roberts (Rockville, Md./Barrie) gave her squad a 2-0 lead at 18:51 before Scranton utilized a 13-2 run to boast a nine-point advantage with 14:59 remaining in the first half.

A pair of bookend three-pointers by first-year guard Raven Owens (Annapolis, Md./Severn) and Sham had the Seahawks right back in the game, trailing only 15-14 at 11:25.  First-year forward Myeisha Wallace (West River, Md./Southern) had four points in the run as well.

Scranton (7-3) carried a 32-19 halftime advantage into the locker room following a 17-5 run to close out the half.  Owens paced the Seahawks with seven first-half points.

St. Mary's closed the gap to six in the first four minutes of the second half with a 13-6 run but the Seahawks could not get over the hump.  Scranton built a double-digit margin for the remaining 15 minutes of the game, leading by as many as 22 points with 8:15 to go.

First-year center Sophie Pruden (Carrboro, N.C./Chapel Hill) was one point shy of recording her third double-double of the season.  Pruden hauled in a game-high 10 rebounds in helping St. Mary's out-rebound the Lady Royals, 50 to 40, while adding nine points.

Sophomore Jasmine Jones (Gaithersburg, Md./Gaithersburg) had a solid game as well for the Seahawks with nine boards, seven points, and four assists.

Scranton was led in the game by guards Alison Sweeney (Wall, N.J./Saint Rose) and Megan Kopecki (Millington, N.J./Watchung Hills Regional) with 13 and 12 points, respectively.  The Lady Royals capitalized on St. Mary's season-high 32 turnovers with 38 points.
