Fayetteville, N.C. – Despite the first double-double of the season by sophomore forward Shana Lewis (Bowie, Md./Bowie), the St. Mary's College of Maryland women's basketball team fell 76-50 to Ferrum College Saturday evening in the first game of the 11th Annual Turkey Shootout hosted by Methodist University.

Lewis hauled in a game- and career-best 13 rebounds, including 10 defensive boards, while tallying a team-best dozen points.  Sophomore Bridget Wilkins (Washington, D.C./Washington Waldorf) also finished in double-digit scoring for the Seahawks with 11 points off the bench.

St. Mary's (1-3) will now face host Methodist tomorrow afternoon at 4:00 pm while Ferrum (3-1) will take on The College of New Jersey at 2:00 pm.

Ferrum opened up the game on a 10-0 run as the Seahawks were held scoreless for nearly the first eight minutes of the contest.  Wilkins snapped the drought for St. Mary's with her layup at 12:13.  Wilkins' layup sparked an 8-5 spurt that pulled her team within 15-8 with 8:07 remaining in the half but the Seahawks would get no closer the rest of the way.

Lewis paced St. Mary's at intermission with first-half highs of eight points and seven caroms.  The Seahawks struggled to find their offensive rhythm in the first stanza, making only 23% of their shots, while just missing two shots from the free throw line.

Despite stronger shooting from St. Mary's in the second half, the Panthers also improved upon their shooting and connected on 53% of their shot attempts to build a 35-point advantage with 5:55 left to play.  The Seahawks used a 16-2 run to shave 14 points off Ferrum's lead over a 3:25-minute span.

Sophomore Marché Pearson (Laurel, Md./Laurel) contributed a season-best eight points – all in the second half – and eight rebounds towards the Seahawk cause.
